Version 2.6 Exo-Gauntlet - The latest version of CO2 powered robotic exo-skeleton gauntlets by Bionic Concepts. Apply crushing force with integrated high pressure custom actuators working around your hand. In Version 2.6 the mechanism was improved by using a precision milled slide-cam tendon system. Capable of crushing a can of pop with only two fingers. Incredibly durable and designed to protect your hand from any harmful force or motion. Inside of gauntlet is lined with foam padding for a comfortable fit. Shell and internal mechanisms are made from high strength 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, with stainless steel actuators, Acetal bearings, and high grade miniature carbon steel bolts throughout.

How it works:

Gauntlet is worn like a glove. While the power is off you are free to move your hand around and the fingers move freely around yours. To activate the power assist function, press and hold the brass button on the forearm to send power to all 5 fingers simultaneously. This instantly powers all of the fingers closed at once, applying crushing force to whatever you are holding. Once you release the button, the pressure is vented and once again the fingers move freely.

Adjust the speed and power level to shut the fingers fast but with minimal force, or the opposite... shut the fingers very slowly but with great force. Speed control is adjusted by the small brass rotary knob near the activation button (clockwise decreases speed, counter-clockwise increases speed). Power control is adjusted by rotating the knob at the base of the regulator where the CO2 cartridges plug into (clockwise increases power, counter-clockwise decreases power).

Which brings us to CO2 cartridges. The power source for this gauntlet. The Exo-Gauntlet 2.6 uses standard 16 gram threaded CO2 cartridges like the kind used in paintball guns, emergency life jackets, and roadside bicycle or car tire inflators. They are the most common size and type of cartridge and can be bought online or at bicycle repair/supply stores. A box of 20 goes for about $30 if you can find a good deal.

The cartridges screw into a pocket sized CO2 regulator custom made for just this application. For each CO2 cartridge you can get a good strong handshake level of force 20-30 times or use the gauntlets at maximum power for about 7 times. Once the cartridge is depleted, unscrew it and screw in another. NEVER unscrew a CO2 cartridge until it is fully depressurized. The gauntlet is connected to the regulator by reinforced double walled air line about 3 feet long. Long enough so that you can easily thread the air line through your clothes and keep the regulator in your pocket while in use.

Due to the fixed size of the actuators and surrounding mechanisms gauntlet is only available in Large, XL, or a medium on the larger side. Minimum height for use is approximately 5'9". Best used by people with a slim or average build due to having to fit your fingers into the internal mechanisms.

Construction time is 4-5 weeks. Shipping in one week internationally.


Note: It's been a while since I've upgraded this. I'm interested in making some changes to the design which would increase power and reduce weight. To facilitate improvement I can offer this upgrade for the same price.
